RED ORANGE COMPLEX™ is a standardized powder extract obtained from the juice of three pigmented (Moro, Tarocco and Sanguinello) varieties of Sicilian blood orange grown exclusively in a particular area surrounding Europes most active volcano, Mt. Etna.
A regular physical activity, enhances health and improves the overall quality of life. However, intensive physical exercise represents a condition that is often associated with increased production of reactive oxygen species and free radicals in various tissues. Oxidative stress has been associated with decreased physical performance. Our body contains a large amount of antioxidants to prevent ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) formation or scavenge free radicals. But, supplementation of antioxidants may be desirable to reduce oxidative stress and provide a larger protective margin against its possible consequences.
Exposure of the skin to solar ultraviolet (UV) radiations causes important oxidative damage contributing to inflammation and skin aging. Red oranges (Moro, Tarocco and Sanguinello) are varieties of oranges with Protected Geographical Indication (IGP). You can find them exclusively in a certain area around the Etna volcano in Sicily (Italy). They have a bright orange peel with red hues and a sweet taste.
Thanks to the phenolic compounds (anthocyanins, flavanones, and hydroxycinnamic acids) and ascorbic acid with antioxidant activity, ROC is able:
● to decrease oxidative stress and thus protect against its short and long-term health consequences in athletes engaged in regular training programs;
● to protect skin against UV-induced damage (cutaneous erythema) and control the hyperpigmentation (melanin production) and photoaging.
The activity of ROC has been evaluated in a clinical study carried out:
• on 18 sportsmens and 17 sedentary individuals
• treated with 100 mg/day of ROC
• for 2 months (2 capsules of 50 mg/day)
RED ORANGE COMPLEX™ was able to increase plasma concentration of biomarkers related to the presence of antioxidant endogenous substances (glutathione and its derivatives), such as thiolic groups-SH levels in sportsmen (a). Moreover, it can reduce oxidative stress biomarker values to physiological range, as shown in D-Roms test results (b).
